CJEU ruling against Hungary: 'It is a milestone in European law'
In a landmark ruling against Hungary, the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) has, for the first time, found a standalone breach of the European Union's fundamental values under Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union. According to FUEN legal adviser Thomas Hieber, the judgment could significantly strengthen the European Commission's ability to uphold these values and may also open new avenues for protecting national minorities. In this interview, he explains why he considers the ruling a milestone in European law.
