From 23 to 24 March 2026, Paola Fontanella Pisa, Associate Academic Officer at UNU EHS and GLOMOS, participated in the Technical Meeting of the World Network of Mountain Biosphere Reserves (WNMBR) held at the Montseny Biosphere Reserve in Spain.
The meeting brought together key partners of the Network members of the advisory committee to address two main objectives: reviewing the WNMBR Action Plan for the next two years in alignment with the UNESCO MAB Hangzhou Strategic Action Plan (2026–2035), and defining a roadmap for updating the Global Change in Mountain Regions (GLOCHAMORE) research strategy to respond to emerging global challenges and evolving needs of mountain biosphere reserves.
On this occasion, Dr. Paola Fontanella Pisa was invited to contribute as a member of the WNMBR Advisory Committee, reinforcing GLOMOS’ role in supporting both the Network and its Secretariat through strategic and scientific input. Her contribution adds on GLOMOS’ other ongoing engagement with the WNMBR, such as the Mountain ResearchInternship Programme launched in September 2025, grounded in shared commitments to inclusive, bottom up research and the engagement of UNESCO Biosphere Reserves as model areas for sustainable mountain development.
The technical discussions in Montseny also laid the foundation for continued collaboration, providing strategic direction for forthcoming WNMBR activities and joint research initiatives. In this framework, GLOMOS confirmed its readiness to further support the Network by leveraging the scientific expertise of UNU EHS and Eurac Research, contributing to the co development of research agendas that connect global science, local knowledge, and policy relevant outcomes for mountain regions.
