Italy’s judicial reform and the 2026 confirmatory constitutional referendum

Next 22 and 23 March, Italy will hold a constitutional referendum on a major reform of its judicial system. The reform proposes a structural reorganization of the judiciary, notably through the separation of careers paths between judges and prosecutors. Despite being approved by Parliament, the proposed reform did not achieve the two-third majority required for automatic constitutional ratification.
