New Romanian president Nicușor-Daniel Dan wins run-off election thanks to strong mobilisation of minorities The national minorities played an important role in the run-off election for the Romanian presidency on 18 May between the ultra-right, nationalist and Russia-friendly candidate [George Simion](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AUR_Alliance) and the conservative-liberal, pro-European Bucharest mayor Nicușor-Daniel Dan, who comes from Făgăraș/Fogarasch in Transylvania.
