Hungary’s minorities lose parliamentary representation in 2026 election
Hungary’s 13 recognised national minorities have lost their only full parliamentary representative following the 2026 election. The result exposes both the strengths and structural limits of the country’s minority electoral system. While minorities are guaranteed a form of representation, legal and practical barriers continue to restrict meaningful political participation. The outcome also reflects broader political dynamics, as many minority voters prioritised the general election over minority lists.
