When language becomes a gatekeeper: public employment and linguistic rights in Catalonia

Following the recent scandal over [forged language certificates in South Tyrol](https://www.eurac.edu/en/blogs/midas/buying-bilingualism-fake-language-certificates), this is the second entry in a MIDAS blog series exploring how language skills of public employees are assessed in multilingual territories. This post zooms in on the situation in Catalonia where the topic has attracted major public attention as the policies intended to promote the Catalan language have to cope with labor shortages in key public sectors while not being exempt from court litigation.
