How the media in unique minority languages contribute to language maintenance

How do media in unique minority languages contribute to language maintenance? This question was the focus of a [research study](https://www.ecmi.de/JEMIE/index.php/journal/article/view/128) by Jakob Volgger and Marc Röggla. The two researchers examined the role of newspapers, television and radio in Basque, Ladin and Upper Sorbian. As this interview with Jakob Volgger shows, each of these linguistic contexts faces its own challenges in preserving and promoting its language. Despite often limited resources, these media play a vital role in language standardisation, vocabulary development or adaptation to the digital age.
