INNo-CHIP

The INNo-CHIP project aims to promote the adoption and development of organ-on-chip (OoC) technology in order to improve preclinical research and the competitiveness of the biomedical sector. Coordinated by the Institute of Biomedicine of Eurac Research, the project involves a cross-border consortium including NOI Tech Park, FEMTOprint SA, AxCellerate Sagl and the Life Sciences Competence Centre of the Canton of Ticino. The aim of this strategic collaboration is to create an interregional cluster specialising in life sciences, promoting technological innovation and knowledge transfer between academic institutions and companies.

INNo-CHIP focuses on the development of a prototype organ-on-chip technology, an advanced platform capable of mimicking human physiology with high fidelity, reducing the reliance on animal models and accelerating the research and development process for new drugs and therapies. The project will also include support tools for spin-off companies and technology transfer initiatives to facilitate the commercialisation of these innovations.

One of the key aspects of the project is the integration of multidisciplinary expertise, ranging from materials science to advanced cell model biology. Thanks to a collaborative approach, INNo-CHIP will contribute to the creation of an ecosystem for the research and development of advanced technologies, directly supporting 10 biomedical researchers and involving more than 25 organisations in the field in South Tyrol, Canton Ticino and the Insubric region.

INNo-CHIP represents a significant step towards innovation in the biomedical sector, with the aim of making the cross-border area a reference point for research on organ-on-chip models. By strengthening collaboration between Italy and Switzerland, the project aims to consolidate a sustainable framework for cooperation, fostering economic growth and scientific progress in the area.
