Four researchers from GLOMOS actively contributed to the International Climate Resilience Conference (iCARE) hosted by LMU Munich, bringing forward their expertise and research.

The iCARE 2025 Conference, held from 26–29 October 2025 in Munich, Germany, gathered leading researchers, policymakers, and practitioners from across the world to exchange knowledge and discuss emerging approaches to strengthening resilience to climate change.
Dr. Stefan Schneiderbauer, Head of GLOMOS, co-convened the session “Building Resilience for Sustainable Mountain Development,” focusing on strategies to safeguard fragile mountain ecosystems and livelihoods in the context of a changing climate.
Dr. Dipesh Chapagain, Senior Research Associate at GLOMOS, co-convened the session “Resilience to Multi-Hazards in Time and Space,” and presented two key research papers. He shared findings from his collaborative work with IIASA and the Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance on “Linking Pre-Flood Community Resilience to Post-Flood Outcomes: Empirical Evidence from Developing Countries.” Dr. Chapagain also presented “Climate Risks and Adaptation in Mountain Areas: Insights from Global Climate Policy Instruments,” highlighting challenges and opportunities in global climate adaptation frameworks.
Dr. Federica Romagnoli, Postdoctoral Researcher at GLOMOS, presented her work “Enhancing Climate Resilience in Mountain Regions through the Impact Chain Methodology: A Case Study from the South-Eastern Alps”, showcasing innovative methods for assessing climate risks in mountainous regions.
Dr. Blal Adem Esmail, Senior Researcher at GLOMOS, delivered a presentation titled “Enhancing Urban Water System Resilience under Climate Change: An Application of a Participatory Impact Chain Approach in the Greater Asmara Area, Eritrea.” The presentation, conducted within the framework of the NBS4Water Project, highlighted the application of participatory approaches to strengthen urban water system resilience in the face of climate change.
The conference concluded with the adoption of the Munich Climate Resilience Initiative (MCRI), a collective commitment to advancing resilience science and practice.
GLOMOS researchers were also recognized for their outstanding contributions to resilience research during the event. Dr. Dipesh Chapagain received the “Excellent Young Researcher Award” in Climate Resilience for his evidence-based research linking scientific understanding with practical action in some of the world’s most climate-sensitive regions, including mountain areas. Dr. Blal Adem Esmail received the Best Oral Presentation Award for his exceptional delivery and contribution to advancing climate resilience in urban water systems.
