E-course and serious game on biobanking for students, young researchers and the general public
13.06.2025
The Erasmus+ KA project SCIBIOEU has developed two free online tools to support education and science outreach in the field of biobanking:
- SCIBIOEU E-course on Biobanking (for students, early career researchers, medical staff etc)
- SCIBIOEU Serious Game on Biobanking (for the public/younger citizens)
The SCIBIOEU e-course on biobanking course introduces the fundamentals of biobanking. It can also be used by lecturers as supplementary material in teaching. The lessons include videos, text handouts, and self-assessment quizzes, covering topics such as:
- General information about biobanks
- How samples and data ‘get’ into a biobank
- Consent and biobanking
- The need for sample quality & quality management in biobanking
- Access to biobank samples and data
- ELSI – Regulatory framework of biobanks
- Technoethics – Ethical dilemmas in digital age & biobanking
- Introducing biobank communication
In the SCIBIOEU interactive serious game on biobanking players take on the role of an intern learning about key biobanking processes—from patient interaction and informed consent to sample collection, processing, and storage. Both the SCIBIOEU e-course and serious game are free to use tools and accessible through the SCIOBIOEU website.
This project is co-funded by Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union under grant agreement No. 2022-1-EL01-KA220-HED-000088145
