Doing Environmental Justice through Climate Assemblies?

Francesca Rosignoli, Senior Researcher at the Institute for Minority Rights and the Institute for Comparative Federalism at Eurac Research, presented the paper “Doing Environmental Justice through Climate Assemblies? Lessons Learned from Two Case Studies in Austria and Italy” at the World Community Development Conference 2026 (WCDC 2026), held at the University of Glasgow from 30 June to 2 July 2026.

The paper explores the potential of climate assemblies as participatory mechanisms to advance environmental justice, drawing insights from two case studies conducted in Austria and Italy. By examining how deliberative processes can contribute to more inclusive climate governance, the research highlights both opportunities and challenges in fostering equitable environmental decision-making.

The conference provided an inspiring international platform for exchanging ideas and experiences with scholars, practitioners, and community development professionals from around the world.
