Eurac Research at IMISCOE Annual Conference 2026

A strong delegation of researchers from Eurac Research participated in the IMISCOE Annual Conference 2026 in Girona, one of the leading international events in the field of migration studies. Over several days, our researchers presented their work, took part in panel discussions, and exchanged ideas with colleagues from across the globe.

The conference offered a valuable opportunity to engage with current debates, foster new collaborations, and contribute to advancing research on migration.

A highlight of this year's conference was the recognition of Emilia Melossi, who was awarded the 2026 Maria Ioannis Baganha Prize for the best PhD thesis in Migration Studies. The prize is presented by the IMISCOE – International Migration Research Network, the world's largest network of migration scholars, and is among the most prestigious international distinctions for early-career researchers in the field. More than 60 doctoral theses from around the world were submitted for this year's award.

Melossi's winning dissertation, Red Gold and Black Labour: Sub-Saharan Migrants' Struggles for Survival in the Rural Ghettos of Southern Italy, was recognised for its outstanding contribution to migration studies. We warmly congratulate Emilia on this well-deserved achievement.
