Carla Maria Reale is the Principal Investigator of SEEDS – Social Empowerment and Equity in Disability and Gender in South Tyrol, a project funded by the Autonomous Province of Bolzano/Bozen and hosted at Eurac Research. SEEDS explores how South Tyrol can develop intersectional and gendersensitive disability policies that enhance selfdetermination and equality for women and LGBTQIA+ people with disabilities. Bringing together sociolegal analysis, intersectional feminist theory and participatory methods, the project aims to strengthen local policies by centring lived experiences and aligning them with international human rights standards.
Carla Maria Reale holds a PhD in Comparative Constitutional Law from the University of Trento, where her doctoral research explored sexuality, disability and fundamental rights through an interdisciplinary approach. During her PhD she was a visiting researcher at Maynooth University, the Centre for Disability Law and Policy at the University of Galway, and the Department of Gender Studies at Lund University.
Before joining Eurac Research, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Trento and at the University of Genoa. Her research on gender, sexuality, disability, equality policies, and on the relationship between identity, the body and constitutional rights. She is also active as a trainer on gender equality and intersectionality for schools, NGOs and public institutions. She teaches in several Italian universities and serves on the board of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Gender Studies at the University of Trento.
