UNWTO 2nd World Conference on Smart Destinations
Eurac Research’s Center for Advanced Studies joined the World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) 2nd World Conference on Smart Destinations in the Spanish city of Oviedo (25-27 June 2018). The event featured two days of seminars detailing destinations’ routes towards effective digitalization. It focussed on how destinations can use technological advances to spur sustainable management of tourism, encompassing innovative monitoring and measurement techniques, big data analytics and georeferencing.
In the session dedicated to academic contributions, Prof. Harald Pechlaner – Director of the Center for Advanced Studies – and Anna Scuttari – researcher at the Center – presented a case study on smart monitoring of tourism flows in the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site. The paper is co-authored by Anja Marcher, Daria Habicher and Gerhard Vanzi and it was built on the research project #Dolomitesvives.
