About

Andrea Vianello is a senior technician at the Center for Sensing Solutions of Eurac Research. He received his BSc in Geographical Information System in 2003 at the University IUAV of Venice and a second BSc in Forestry Science at the University of Padua in 2009. He received his MSc in Geographical Information System and Remote Sensing in 2014 at the University IUAV of Venice. He has been working at ISMAR-CNR in Venice from 2003 to 2016 as spatial data manager with a focus on data sharing on the web. He managed also a sensor network for underground water monitoring and high precision GPS measurements. From 2016 he has been working at Eurac Research to manage the Spatial Data Infrastructure and web services for datasets fostering the FAIR data principles.

Publishing Eurac Research data on the GEOSS Platform

This paper is the third of a series that introduces some of the main dataset resources presently shared through the GEOSS Platform. The GEOSS Platform is a brokering infrastructure that brokers more than 190 autonomous information systems and data catalogs; it was created to provide the technological tool to implement the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS). This manuscript focuses on the analysis of Eurac Research datasets and illustrates the data publishing process to enroll the Eurac Research Data Provider to the GEOSS Platform through the administrative and technical registrations. The study provides an analysis of the GEOSS user searches for Eurac Research data in order to understand the main use of datasets of an important Data Provider.

AlpConv Atlas: The Geospatial Content Management System of the Alpine Convention

Background

The Alpine Convention (AC) promotes research, cooperation and monitoring activities in the Alpine Region. In this framework, the AC Atlas is the official content management system for geographical data published by the Alpine Convention. The AC Atlas' final goal is to promote, collect, organise and disseminate the results of research activities carried out by the Alpine Convention, its Working Groups and by European projects in the Alpine Region.

New information

The system is based on the open-source GeoNode platform supporting standard OGC services. Hence, the AlpConv Atlas allows for browsing, searching, editing documents, layers, maps, and related metadata by an intuitive web-based graphical user interface. The AC Atlas is finally a collaborative platform for managing various geographical data and the related documentation, which can be of great interest to several stakeholders.

A Methodology for Heterogeneous Sensor Data Organization and Near Real-Time Data Sharing by Adopting OGC SWE Standards

Finding a solution to collect, analyze, and share, in near real-time, data acquired by heterogeneous sensors, such as traffic, air pollution, soil moisture, or weather data, represents a great challenge. This paper describes the solution developed at Eurac Research to automatically upload data, in near real-time, by adopting Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) standards to guarantee interoperability. We set up a methodology capable of ingesting heterogeneous datasets to automatize observation uploading and sensor registration, with minimum interaction required of the user. This solution has been successfully tested and applied in the Long Term (Socio-)Ecological Research (LT(S)ER) Matsch-Mazia initiative, and the code is accessible under the CC BY 4.0 license.
