Adige Water Fair

Water in the Adige River basin is used across multiple sectors that are interconnected and interdependent. Agriculture relies heavily on water for irrigation, while human activities can affect water quality. In addition, the energy sector requires water for hydropower production, with significant impacts on availability for other uses. These sectors are often treated as separate entities, resulting in disputes and tensions over multisectoral and geographically fair water management, especially under conditions of water scarcity. Moreover, in the event of floods, coordinated management of emergency situations is essential.

As is sometimes the case in water management, scientific research also often adopts a fragmented, project-based approach.

In this context, we organized the first Adige Water Fair: an inter-project and inter-institutional event to bring together stakeholders and those engaged in applied research on water in the Adige River basin (and its tributaries, from upstream to downstream). The aim was to contribute to defining key issues and possible actions and solutions (technological, managerial, and research-oriented) to improve water management.

The event took place on 19–20 May 2025 at our Eurac Research headquarters.
