The IT & Data Management department provides the digital backbone for research at the Institute for Biomedicine. The team develops and maintains the software-platforms, web applications, and databases that enable secure and efficient handling of biomedical data. With data protection and privacy at the forefront, it oversees system administration and operate our high-performance computing infrastructure — from planning and installation to continuous monitoring and maintenance. The unit supports temperature- and status-monitoring systems for the Biobank as well as alerting for cryo-tanks, freezers, and fridges. It also assists researchers with data processing and workflow automation and offers training opportunities.
The Institute's computing environment includes dedicated clusters and servers for data-intensive analyses, featuring nearly 1,000 CPUs and close to 10 TB of RAM across 24 compute nodes. Researchers have access to approximately 400 TB of storage and an additional 200 TB of temporary working space. A GPU server supports computational tasks such as neural network training and deep-learning applications, and an off-site storage system provides secure backup capacity.
Together, these systems and services ensure that researchers at the Institute can work with complex health and biological data reliably, efficiently, and securely.
