Eurac Research Scientist Wins Best Young Scientist Award at ICAM 2025

The ICAM conference is a leading international event that gathers experts and researchers from across the world to exchange knowledge on weather and climate processes in mountain regions.

In September, Gaspard Simonet, researcher at the Center for Climate Change and Transformation, participated in the International Conference on Alpine Meteorology (ICAM 2025) held in Croatia.

He presented a poster based on the work carried out within the Return project, funded under the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The poster illustrates how the ongoing research integrates innovative mobile monitoring with advanced modelling to characterise Urban Heat Islands dynamics in complex Alpine terrain, using Bolzano as case study.

The contribution received strong interest from the scientific community and earned the Best Young Scientist Award, recognizing the quality and innovation of his research in the field of mountain meteorology and climate risk analysis. Congratulations to Gaspard for this achievement and for representing our Center and the Return project on the international stage!

Gaspard Simonet

Gaspard Simonet is a researcher at the Center for Climate Change and Transformation. His work focuses on high-resolution atmospheric modelling and the study of valley wind dynamics, turbulence parameterization, and energy exchange processes in complex Alpine terrains. He also investigates urban climate modelling and Urban Heat Island dynamics to support effective climate adaptation strategies for resilient mountain and urban communities.
