On May 5th, 2025, the Klimaplan2040-funded project NextWater_ST – A Nexus perspective for adapting water management in South Tyrol to future changes officially started.
NextWater_ST Officially Kicks Off: Shaping the Future of Water Management in South Tyrol
07.05.2025
Coordinated by Eurac Research in partnership with the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano and the Laimburg Research Centre, the two-year initiative aims to enhance our understanding of how climate change, land use shifts, and socio-economic developments will affect water availability and demand across key sectors—energy, agriculture, and ecosystems.
Using an integrated Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus approach, NextWater_ST will assess where future conflicts among water users may emerge. The project also places a strong emphasis on co-developing adaptation strategies with local stakeholders to ensure actionable, context-specific solutions.
Key outcomes will include:
- High-resolution data on water availability and demand
- An integrated WEFE model tailored to South Tyrol
- Co-designed scenarios and policy recommendations to support Klimaplan2040 implementation
More information will soon be available on the Eurac Research project page.
