Bridging Science, Policy and Society: TRANSACTIONABLE at IMC 2025

As part of the conference, the TRANSACTIONABLE team organized and led the focus session “Bridging Science, Policy and Civil Society for Transformative Action in Mountain Regions.”

The session was composed of both poster and oral presentations and was highly participated, fostering lively exchanges among researchers from different mountain ranges and regions. The contributions were wide and varied, spanning topics such as tourism and regional development, wildlife management, governance, ecological and environmental protection, exploring in different ways how to co-create actionable knowledge that supports just and sustainable transitions in mountain territories. Several important lessons emerged from the session. Participants underlined the need to bridge diverse knowledge systems in the design of transition and transformation policies. Reflexivity and trust-building were identified as key elements in maintaining equitable partnerships between science, policy, and civil society. Discussions also emphasized that transformative change in mountain regions requires both institutional innovation and community-level empowerment. To address and guide these changes, a self-reflective and evaluative process jointly led by stakeholders and researchers was seen as essential to enable adaptation, iteration, and continuous improvement in transdisciplinary work.

By engaging in this dialogue, TRANSACTIONABLE strengthened its network of partners committed to co-producing transformative action and deepened its understanding of how to enhance the real-world impact of transdisciplinary collaborations in mountain regions.
