INNo-CHIP drives organ-on-chip innovation and unites partners from Italy and Switzerland to strengthen cross-border biomedical research and development.
A new research project coordinated by the Institute for Biomedicine at Eurac Research is setting the stage for a biomedical innovation. INNo-CHIP brings together partners from Italy (South Tyrol) and Switzerland (Canton of Ticinio) to develop and promote organ-on-chip (OoC) technology — a cutting-edge tool that replicates human physiology on microfluidic chips and opens up new possibilities in drug development.
The goal? To improve the competitiveness of the biomedical sector while reducing the need for animal testing and accelerating preclinical research. The project unites a strong cross-border consortium: NOI Tech Park, FEMTOprint SA, AxCellerate Sagl, and the Life Sciences Competence Centre of the Canton of Ticino. Together with Eurac Research, they aim to build an interregional cluster for life sciences innovation, combining technological development with knowledge transfer between research institutions and businesses.
The project is co-financed by the European Union, the European Regional Development Fund, the Italian State, the Rotation Fund, the Swiss Confederation and the Cantons under the Interreg VI-A Italy–Switzerland cooperation programme.
