Humanita - New Communication Narratives for Visitor Management

This manual brings together consolidated knowledge on the origins of narrative techniques and heritage interpretation, the evolution of narrative-based communication in the environmental field, and a set of ready-to-use methodologies supported by best practices and operational tools. It offers a structured synthesis of theoretical foundations and applied approaches, making it both an informative reference and a practical instrument for field implementation of diversified communication products.

The publication is primarily addressed to park managers and territorial policy makers, those who, at the local level and on the front line, bear responsibility for strategically managing sustainable tourism and safeguarding natural heritage. Conceived as a concise yet robust resource, it has been designed to be clear, accessible and operational, while preserving the technical depth needed to support informed decision-making and high-quality interpretive practices.

By broadening competencies in educational communication and active citizen engagement, widening the concept of information to include training and cultural paradigm shift where yet significant progress remains needed, the guidelines aim to equip practitioners with effective, evidence-based tools that can be applied directly in diverse field contexts.

The guidelines advance the overarching objective of the Interreg Central Europe HUMANITA project by reframing visitors not simply as temporary users of natural areas, but as potential co-stewards of the living heritage they encounter. Through structured narrative approaches and participatory methodologies, it aims to stimulate individual trajectories toward environmental responsibility and sustained stewardship.
