Spatio-Temporal Landslide identification and Activity assessment for hazard and Risk investigations in Longnan region, Northwest China

China has been affected by some of the world's most serious geological disasters and experiences high economic damage every year related to such events. Existing landslide inventories are rarely complete because in most cases data sources (e.g. aerial photographs, satellite images, and ground-based observations) are not available to the scientists, which hinders an effective use within landslide risk management.

The overall goal of the project is to use a wide range of remote sensing data to detect and map landslides, to assess their activity and velocity, to determine the spatio-temporal variation of landslides in relation to pre-disposing factors such as land use, to assess the related consequences and to analyze the hazards and risks to aid local and regional decision makers. The outcome is expected to contribute to the contemporary research on the application of remote sensing data within landslide research. Hereby, a major benefit will be the availability of spatial and temporal distribution maps of landslides and damages inventories.

The project aims to reinforce the collaboration between the Nanjing Normal University (China), and the Institute for Applied Remote Sensing, EURAC research (Italy). Our group would provide support in landslide detection, monitoring and hazard assessment as well as for Sentinel data processing.
