LEVER - Enhancing PLurivErsality for a Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA): GoVERning the Climate-Biodiversity-Pollution Nexus studies the climate-biodiversity-pollution nexus from a human rights based approach perspective in order to support transformative changes toward safeguarding biodiversity. To achieve this, the project combines approaches from law, humanities, social sciences, and ecology in an in-depth empirical analysis of case studies from five countries (Brazil, Indonesia, Spain, Sweden, and Uganda). So doing, LEVER contributes to state-of-the-art academic scholarship on transforming the climate-biodiversity-pollution nexus, as well as to critical policy processes of the UNFCCC and the CBD. Within this project, the Institute for Comparative Federalism will lead WP 3 on Developing a Pluriversal Legal Glossary. WP3 draws directly from WP2’s findings on conceptualizing local values to translate these into legal terms. It responds to the research question: In what ways can a pluriversal Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA) integrate Indigenous and local values that have historically been excluded from mainstream policy? Through which legal framework and glossary? Participatory workshops both in this WP and in the whole project ensure that the legal principles reflect both national legislation and Indigenous legal understandings, forming a normative basis for future-oriented planning in the rest of the project.
