About

I am a senior researcher at the Institute for Applied Linguistics and the Center for Migration and Societal Change of Eurac Research (Bolzano/Bozen). I work in the field of plurilingualism and plurilingual education, with a focus on the promotion of socially just forms of education through the valorisation of school children's full linguistic repertoires and knowledges, particularly through translanguaging pedagogies. My research interests include:

  • plurilingual education
  • translanguaging
  • minoritised and migranticised languages
  • linguistic and epistemic justice in education
  • decolonial approaches to language education
  • English as a lingua franca (ELF) communication
  • critical English-Medium Instruction and the internationalisation of education
  • virtual exchange for the development of language and intercultural competence

Two new projects I am involved in from 2026: VOICES (Voices of Heritage Languages) together with colleagues from Eurac Research and the Universities of Teacher Education Bern and Lucerne (Switzerland), and CLEVER-AI with colleagues from the University of La Réunion, Universität Salzburg, Université Catholique de Louvain, University of Strasbourg, University of Limerick and Eurac Research.

In addition to research activities, I co-organise the webinar series "Diversity Matters" for the Center of Migration and Societal Change of Eurac Research, and the webinar series "Language, Power, and Social Boundaries: Dynamics of Inclusion and Exclusion Across Social Spaces" - an initiative of IMISCOE EduSocial & CIES-Iscte, in collaboration with Eurac Research, CESSMIR & Ghent University.

Prior to moving to Eurac Research, I worked as post-doctoral researcher at the University of Padova, where I conducted research into students' perceptions of and experiences with learning subject content in English-Medium Instruction settings. From 2013 to 2015 I worked as a researcher within the LEAP (Learning English for Academic Purposes) Project, with the aim of providing support to lecturers involved in English-Medium Instruction (EMI) at the University of Padova. I have also been the coordinator of the University Language Centre’s EMI support programme and head of the International Relations and Erasmus+ Office at Scuola Superiore per Mediatori Linguistici (Padova). At both institutions, I have also taught English as a foreign language and applied linguistics at both BA and MA levels.
