Scientific Committee 2025

The Institute for Renewable Energy calls the annual Scientific Council meeting the next 18 and 19 November, at NOI Techpark, Bolzano. This event represents an important occasion for all the research groups and collaborators, in order to evaluate the present, future and closed activities of the Institute, as well as to receive an evaluation feedback and recommendation for future research projects.

In 2025 the Institute was involved in around 95 commissioned projects and in around 75 public co-funded research projects. In the field of commissioned projects from industry a trend to larger projects and projects commissioned by larger national and international companies could be observed. Next to the commissioned projects by industry actors as well projects commissioned by public entities are becoming a more regular activity.

With regard to infrastructure and laboratories, the focus of the last year was on the one hand to manage at its best the existing infrastructure and continue to slightly enlarge the list of accredited tests based on international standards (5 laboratories and 12 different tests are accredited now). We slightly increased the infrastructure of the PV lab for module testing based on a national funding. One highlight of 2025 was the inauguration of a demo agri-PV system, based on the areas of the local agriculture research institution Laimburg, allowing a joint agri+energy evaluation of the installation.

Further we prepared in 2025 two new test facilities – funded by regional projects - for the testing of hybrid heating systems (gas boilers + heat pumps) and gas fired heat pumps, and a new outdoor test facility for wind and water proofness test on large scale façade demo mockup’s. Both infrastructures are expected to be physically set up in 2026.

With regard to research output in 2024/2025 the Institute published a relevant number of articles in scientific journals and conference proceedings (around 100), with most Journal Articles being in Q1 Journals.

The Institute continues to invest in a strong and well established local, national and international network. This is done through many activities, presence at main sectorial industry and scientific events and active participation in specific associations.
