Dolomites UNESCO Forum II

The Dolomite region has 6 million arrivals and 25 million overnight stays per year. The limits of human and natural endurance have already been reached in some places, and in some places they have been exceeded. Motorised traffic, which is directly and indirectly triggered by tourism, is considered to be a central burden. It becomes clear that mobility is the greatest challenge in the development of a sustainable development concept for the Dolomite region, but not only. Guests are increasingly sensitive to the environment and demand the possibility of using more socially acceptable instruments.

The event is intended to contribute to thinking about approaches and solutions to questions relating to mobility behaviour and the associated visitor guidance: How will guests arrive in our destinations in the future and how can we guide the flow of guests in terms of time and space in order to avoid traffic jams and "overcrowding"? To what extent is the quality of life of the local population affected by phenomena of (perceived) overtourism? How can the challenges of the Dolomites as a living space be reconciled with the development perspectives of the Dolomites as a destination?
