Inequalities are embedded in every society and result in certain groups receiving advantages from which others are excluded: There are the wealthy and the less wealthy, there are the powerful and those over whom power is exercised, there are the highly educated and the low-skilled, there are socially valued population groups and those who are less respected, there are people who are better off because of their gender or origin and those who are disadvantaged. What has changed, however, is the context in which inequalities emerge, as well as their framework conditions, their nature and extent. For example, digitalisation has not only changed the way we do business and work, but has also had a significant impact on the distribution of income, wealth and power. Current crises are hitting the weak and disadvantaged in society even harder and exacerbating the disparities. Inequalities not only affect individual lifestyles, but also lead to social and political problems. How can this imbalance be addressed and, at best, solved? What are the prospects for development? Are there examples of how inequality can be countered in an exemplary way? These are questions that renowned experts will try to answer.

The first part of the conference will take place in Bolzano and is organised in cooperation with SIBE - School of International Business and Entrepreneurship at Steinbeis University Berlin. The main focus will be on global dynamics around the topic of inequalities, including income inequalities, access to resources, education and social mobility. On the second day - as part of the third edition of the Churburg Economic Talks 2.0 in Schluderns/Sluderno - the focus is on the regional level. In cooperation with the start-up and innovation centre BASIS Vinschgau Venosta, inequality-relevant aspects and topics in rural areas, such as rural exodus, affordable housing, as well as possible development perspectives will be discussed.

Targeting glocal inequality relations

Global inequality dynamics, resource distribution and ultimately also geopolitical power relations have - even if not always visible at first glance - direct effects on the local level. We question and discuss system logics that are responsible for existing inequality relations.
