How to assess indoor environmental quality: new Eurac Research laboratories

The assessment of indoor environmental quality in buildings is crucial for creating and maintaining healthy and comfortable spaces for occupants. In a context where buildings are designed and constructed to be increasingly airtight for reasons of energy efficiency, it is necessary to assess how reduced air recirculation with the outside impacts pollutant concentrations and indoor environmental comfort.

Eurac Research has developed experimental facilities to test the effectiveness of building materials and technologies to create high quality environments, both in terms of energy performance and occupant comfort.

The laboratories are designed to provide reliable data on the performance of building and façade materials in terms of thermal comfort, energy efficiency, acoustics, natural lighting and, above all, indoor air quality, including the measurement of volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.
