Envisioning the Future of AI between Utopia and Dystopia. Call for artworks for a digital exhibition as part of the Futurological Congress 2027
For our digital exhibition "Future(s) Forward. Envisioning the Future of AI between Utopia and Dystopia", we are looking for students and graduates from all disciplines – artists, coders, thinkers and experimenters – from all over the European Union an Schengen area who are passionate about exploring new ways of understanding the world and the interaction between human and artificial intelligence(s).
Application deadline: 30 June 2026
The Center for Advanced Studies of Eurac Research, in partnership with Museion Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Bolzano Bozen, is excited to announce a call for artworks related to the upcoming initiative the Futurological Congress, taking place in May 2027. The project brings together art and science to explore and reflect on the role of Artificial Intelligence in everyday life.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is fundamentally reshaping our world. No longer a distant vision of the future, AI is already embedded in our everyday lives, often operating silently in the background. It holds tremendous potential to address complex challenges across diverse sectors and to sustainably enhance our quality of life. As an ever-evolving sociotechnical phenomenon, AI should not be confined to academic discourse or technical circles alone. It must become part of a broader societal conversation. To foster this dialogue, we need diverse and accessible approaches – and this is where art can play a vital role. By translating the abstract and often invisible workings of AI into tangible, experiential formats, artistic and creative expressions can invite wider public engagement and critical reflection. In the face of potential AI-driven anthropological changes, artists are called to answer fundamental questions like: How could and should our future(s) with AI look like?
About the Futurological Congress
The Futurological Congress is an interdisciplinary festival that explores how artificial intelligence is already shaping our daily lives and how it will transform our future. As an open space for exchange, the congress brings together science, art, politics, education, and business, and is deliberately aimed at the entire population of South Tyrol - multilingual, intergenerational, and across both urban and rural communities. By connecting science and art, it creates new, creative, and experiential ways of engaging with a technology that is fundamentally reshaping our “normality.”
A key component of the congress is the digital exhibition "Future(s) Forward", which will be available in multiple public locations. This exhibition will be freely accessible, aiming to bring the discussion around AI into the public sphere.
