From 21 to 23 October, Eurac Research participated in the third partner meeting of the RESPOnD project, held in Südburgenland, in Austria. The three-day gathering brought together project partners from across the Alpine region (France, Italy, Germany, Slovenia, Austria) to share technical expertise aimed at enhancing climate resilience and the provision of ecosystem services in Alpine wine orchards.
Discussions focused on the upcoming research focused on ecosystem-based approaches for vineyard management, on the development of pilot actions as well as on strategies to increase the dissemination of the project’s results to boost its overall impact. Partners shared insights on water and soil stewardship, biodiversity conservation, and cultivation practices tailored to improve ecological conditions, shifting climate conditions, reinforcing a shared commitment to science-based, practical solutions.
Since the project’s launch in September 2024, Eurac Research has played a dual role: coordinating RESPOnD as lead partner and contributing to its scientific implementation in the South Tyrolean pilot area alongside the Laimburg Research Centre. As part of this effort, Eurac hosted and co-led the first Living Lab workshop in South Tyrol, convening local winegrowers, consortia, consultants, the chamber of commerce, and the institute for sustainable water usage. The workshop addressed key climate challenges in viticulture, including phenological shifts, pest dynamics, and biodiversity impacts. It also explored precision irrigation technologies, with Laimburg testing sensor-based systems to monitor vine water status and optimize irrigation.
In addition to technical activities, the Eurac RESPOnD team has actively promoted the project’s outcomes at public events, including the 25th Anniversary of the Interreg Alpine Space Programme in Salzburg in May 2025.
This third partners meeting marked a pivotal moment for RESPOnD and for the South Tyrolean pilot area, fostering knowledge exchange and advancing concrete actions in water management and climate adaptation in viticulture.
