On 31 March, the first monitoring meeting of the project Luoghi Comuni – GEMEINschaftsPLÄTZE, promoted and coordinated by Caritas Bolzano-Bressanone with the support of Eurac Research, took place. The project, which runs over two years, addresses housing exclusion in South Tyrol, with a particular focus on people with a migrant background and in situations of multiple marginalisation, through an integrated and multi-level approach involving public services, third-sector organisations and volunteers.
During the meeting, the project’s objectives, activities and expected results were presented, together with the monitoring framework developed by the Institute of Regional Development of Eurac Research, which jointly analyses beneficiaries’ pathways, the work of practitioners and the collaboration among services and the local network.
“The aim of the monitoring is to better understand what works, for whom and under which conditions, while also making the structural constraints the project is facing visible. By working across multiple levels, the monitoring makes it possible to capture key insights into both the diverse experiences of people affected by housing exclusion and the resources and challenges within service provision. Only a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon allows for the development of effective and sustainable improvement measures,” explains our colleague Marzia Bona.
The session concluded with a participatory moment, involving practitioners in reflecting on opportunities and challenges related to the project. Key aspects that emerged included the central role of trust in individual pathways, the challenges of inter-service coordination and the structural constraints of the local housing context.
The monitoring will accompany the project throughout its duration, with the aim of supporting practitioners, improving practices and contributing to the broader debate on migration, housing and social innovation. At Eurac Research, monitoring and evaluation activities are carried out by Marzia Bona (Institute for Regional Development) and Giacomo Orsini (Center for Migration and Diversity).
