Eurac Research's building envelope innovation at Klimahouse 2026

During Klimahouse 2026, we showed how research can accompany the evolution of facades towards more efficient, adaptive and market-ready solutions, creating a direct dialogue between laboratories, companies and real-world applications.

This path was represented by two projects:

• The workshop “Pathways and strategies for innovation in building envelope components and systems”, organised as part of the H2020 MEZeroE project. Structured as a forum for discussion between companies and researchers, the dialogue highlighted the most effective ways to transform ideas and prototypes into reliable solutions, thanks to performance testing, Living Labs and experimentation in real buildings.

• ZERAF, led by Miren Juaristi Gutiérrez and presented with a stand, showed how research can rethink the traditional building envelope paradigm. Adaptive opaque façade technology introduces systems capable of adapting to climatic conditions and internal requirements, reducing energy consumption, emissions and material use. The message is clear: innovation in building envelopes requires dynamic, measurable and validated solutions, as well as close collaboration between research and industry to accompany their entry into the market.
