The Institute for Renewable Energy of Eurac Research has partnered with the Investment Centre of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to deliver cutting-edge technical expertise on agrivoltaic systems as part of the Agri-food Climate and Environmental Sustainability Initiative.
This collaboration between FAO's Investment Centre and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) aims to accelerate the implementation of climate-efficient policies across East Europe, Central Asia, the Near East and North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa regions.
Agrivoltaic systems, which integrate solar energy generation with agricultural production, offer a promising solution to simultaneously address food security, energy transition, and climate resilience challenges. Eurac Research will leverage its research work in advanced agrivoltaic technologies, design methodologies, and comprehensive monitoring tools to support FAO and EBRD operations in the target regions.
The Institute's mandate includes assessing the technical feasibility and impact of innovative agrivoltaic approaches, identifying scalable examples, and exploring the potential of agrivoltaics for desalination projects.
