Test of a wireless thermostatic valve with an optimized control in the Facade System Interaction Lab
At the Façade System Interaction Lab of Eurac Research at NOI Techpark in Bolzano, we create real-world conditions in a controlled environment to ensure these systems work flawlessly.
In our recent collaboration with ORKLI Giordano Controls, an Italian manufacturer of HVAC control systems and IoT applications, we tested a new wireless thermostatic valve with an optimized control developed and manufactured by the company.
The objective of this work was to verify the functionality of the new controller under different system configurations and focusing on the thermal comfort performance.
- We created a custom testing process that checked the controller under various real-world scenarios - different numbers of radiators, inlet water temperatures, and room heat losses.
- We mapped comfort levels throughout the room by measuring air temperature at over 30 different points and heights.
We used a thermal manikin for local thermal comfort analysis.
The test allowed Giordano Controls to verify and fine-tune their controller before implementation in real buildings.
