Crowd Sourcing for climate and risk analysis

Crowd Sourcing is the practice to obtain information by enlisting the services of a large number of people typically via the Internet. In this project the usefulness of this concept is evaluated against research questions dealing with the perception of natural risks by the population and the production of climate indicators. Two main sources of information are exploited. The social platform Twitter contains information of how individuals react to real hazard events. The quantity and quality of tweets to specific risk topics are harvested, geolocated and made available for risk perception analysis. The private weather stations from the company NetAtmo are used to gather meteorological measurements into a database. The potential of these measurements for improving conventional climate products is evaluated.
