HydroClim-Up – A harmonized and automatic hydro-climatological data pipeline supporting adaptation studies

HydroClim-Up aims to create a harmonized, automatic pipeline for hydro-climatological data, supporting climate adaptation studies in South Tyrol and the Alpine region. The project will consolidate and update hydrological and climatic datasets, making them accessible for research and public use. Key objectives include finalizing the meteorological data pipeline, integrating hydrological data, developing automated update workflows, and providing user-friendly visualization tools. EURAC’s role is to coordinate data collection, pipeline development, and dissemination, leveraging experience from previous projects (Clim-Up, NextWater_ST, A-DROP, HAST). The project will deliver updated documentation, automated pipelines, a meta-catalogue, and a data-paper publication.

HydroClim-Up addresses the fragmentation of hydro-climatological data by developing a unified, automated pipeline for data collection, organization, and dissemination. The project builds on previous ETL pipeline work for meteorological data and extends it to hydrological datasets, focusing on South Tyrol and the Alpine region. Activities are structured into five work packages:

- WP1: Data collection and documentation—identifying and integrating all relevant datasets.

- WP2: Data organization—homogenizing storage and creating a meta-catalogue in EDP.

- WP3: Pipeline and automatization—developing automated workflows for data updates and integration with existing infrastructures.

- WP4: Data visualization and publication—creating accessible visualizations and publishing datasets.

- WP5: Project management—coordinating activities, meetings, and deliverables.

Since project start, the team has reviewed existing datasets, updated documentation, and begun developing the automated pipeline. Planned outputs include a meta-catalogue, automated pipelines, data visualizations, and a scientific data-paper. Publications and data releases are scheduled for the coming year. The project supports EURAC’s mission by consolidating water-related data for impact and adaptation studies, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and enhancing public access to climate information.
