PLANFenster

Wooden windows play an important role in South Tyrol, in new construction and in renovation - especially in ensemble buildings. Especially the smaller window manufacturers have the flexibility to react to customer wishes and building peculiarities without significant additional effort. It is important to maintain this competence and to promote quality through innovations at the window, but especially at the connection of the window to the wall - a potentially critical point.

The PLANFenster project aims to develop standard details for various installation situations with blind frames in a total of 4 workshops together with window manufacturers and planners (both for new buildings and for typical renovation cases) and, in a second step, to evaluate and optimize the individual window types, also for historical buildings, in connection with the installation situation in terms of energy and building physics. The workshops are prepared and accompanied by simulations and measurements - in the laboratory and on site. Particularly innovative in this context is the development of an apparatus for measuring the air tightness and U-value of the window, including the connection, on site: this will provide empirical data on the thermal behavior of the installed windows for the first time.

The results collected in an online thermal bridge atlas and the training modules developed in the project will enable window manufacturers and architects to find and implement improved solutions for the window-wall connection.

The total budget of the PLANFenster project is 234,700.00 euros.
