Top-Up Biodiversity

Biodiversa+ is a collaborative effort aimed at supporting and expanding biodiversity monitoring across Europe. Through this initiative, South Tyrol has been able to reinforce its biodiversity monitoring activities, benefiting from additional funding provided by the European Commission.

In South Tyrol, the Institute for Alpine Environment at Eurac Research, in collaboration with local authorities, is using this support to strengthen ongoing biodiversity monitoring programs. This effort focuses on bolstering existing research and introducing new approaches to better understand and protect the region’s unique natural environment.

The additional funds are being directed towards project coordination, data management, and specific research areas such as bryology (the study of mosses) and the use of automated methods for bird monitoring. These efforts aim to ensure a comprehensive approach to safeguarding biodiversity in South Tyrol, in line with the priorities of the Biodiversa+ partnership.
