Robots at work: colleague or competitor?

What happens when machines at work stop being mere tools and start acting as autonomous agents – making decisions, taking action, and interacting alongside us? As automation reaches more areas of daily life, we increasingly encounter robots that operate as (seemingly) independent actors: sometimes serving us, sometimes collaborating with us. In our second edition, on 3 December, we explore how people experience and make sense of collaborating with autonomous machines at work – asking not only how we will work tomorrow, but also how we want to live and coexist with these new actors in our society.

Astrid Weiss, Associate Professor in the Human-Computer Interaction group at TU Wien, and Andrea Giusti, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Engineering at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, will engage in a critical, audience-focused dialogue on what good collaboration with autonomous systems requires. Lynn Chiu, a science communication expert and International Scientific Community Manager at the University of Vienna, will moderate the discussion.

The event will be held in English, with simultaneous interpretation into German and Italian.
