The solar cadaster has been developed by Eurac Research (Institute for Renewable Energy and Institute for Earth Observation) within the project Solar Tirol and is available for the geographic areas of Tirol and South Tirol.
According to the regional energy strategies of the country Tyrol and the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, the use of renewable energy, specifically the solar energy is foreseen to implement the guideline of the European Directive 2009/28 / EC to promote the use of renewable energy. For the design of such systems there is a lack of data base for the potential for solar energy generation with high spatial resolution on roof level.
