Insights from the Horizon 2020 SERIGO webinar
On 6 May 2026, the SERIGO project hosted the webinar “When inequalities overlap: women’s health in rural Europe”, bringing together researchers, healthcare professionals and policymakers to discuss how intersectionality shapes women’s health outcomes in rural areas.
The event highlighted the importance of understanding overlapping inequalities related to gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status and geographical isolation in order to design more inclusive health and social policies.
Speakers presented case studies and community-led initiatives from across Europe, including projects on gender-based violence in South Tyrol, women’s health in rural Spain, mental health support in Valencia, and the experiences of Roma women in Eastern Europe. Participants also explored practical tools developed within the SERIGO project, such as the Intersectionality Wheel, and exchanged insights on participatory approaches and social innovation in rural communities.
