Tackling energy poverty through accessible information

Keeping a home warm in winter, staying cool during heatwaves or powering essential medical equipment can require considerable amounts of energy. For many people with physical disabilities, these higher energy needs, combined with limited incomes and homes that are difficult to adapt, can increase the risk of energy poverty.

The European LIFE project ASSERT was created to address this challenge through training, practical resources and stronger local support.

As a project partner, Eurac Research contributed to the development of materials that help people understand and manage energy use at home. The project also works with municipalities, support organisations and other local actors, helping them provide more effective assistance to households at greater risk of energy poverty.

One of the latest project results is the new ASSERT website, designed to make information about domestic energy use easier to access and understand, including for people with disabilities.

Through practical guides, users can learn how to:

• understand an energy bill;
• keep their home more comfortable in winter and summer;
• reduce avoidable energy use;
• find out about available financial support;
• explore renewable energy options.

The website translates complex energy topics into clear, practical information that people can use in everyday life. Its accessible structure and content are intended to help users find the information they need more easily and make informed decisions about energy use at home.
