The aim of the project "Social Mobility in South Tyrol" is to investigate how occupational, income and educational differences in South Tyrol have developed over the past decades and are transmitted across generations. To answer these questions, a standardised representative telephone survey (CATI) was conducted with approximately 1,500 persons (N = 1,500). The focus of the survey is the so-called intergenerational social mobility, which is a central indicator for the degree of social permeability of modern societies and is closely linked to democratic guiding principles such as justice and equal opportunities. In addition to an analysis of the current situation, concrete obstacles and challenges for South Tyrol will be identified and recommendations for action will be developed.
The project is a cooperation between Eurac Research’s Center for Advanced Studies and AFI-IPL, the local research and counsel facility with a special focus on labour themes.
