IPCC warns world against “irreversible” impacts of global warming.  How is the EU responding to the climate crisis?

Quid sit futurum cras, fuge quaerere: “non ti chiedere cosa abbia in serbo il domani”. Questo verso di Orazio mi risuonava nelle orecchie mentre, attraversando il Lazio, mi sforzavo di localizzare il monte Soratte, che nella stessa ode è descritto ricoperto di neve (Ode I,9). Mi sono chiesta se duemila anni dopo che quei versi furono scritti ancora ne vedesse di neve questa piccola montagna di neanche 700 metri sul livello del mare: una breve ricerca su google mi tranquillizza che effettivamente è così: continua a nevicare. Ma per quanto ancora? All’epoca della crisi ambientale e del cambiamento climatico è ancora giusto non chiedersi “cosa abbia in serbo il domani” per noi? O meglio ancora: possiamo permetterci di non chiedercelo?

Per salvarci dalla crisi climatica ci serve un sovrano illuminato. O forse no.

As anticipated in the blog post by [Federica Cittadino](https://www.eurac.edu/en/blogs/eureka/the-fight-against-climate-change-a-matter-for-subnational-governments), there is a central but under-studied aspect in the fight against climate change: the implementation of effective mitigation and adaptation measures at the sub-national level. Climate governance, in fact, is taking on an increasingly global dimension and while this is essential for addressing such a wide-ranging issue, it should also manage to maintain some difficult geo-political equilibria.

The current situation of climate change integration in Trentino

The Eurac Research project "[Climate change integration in the multilevel governance of Italy and Austria](https://www.eurac.edu/en/institutes-centers/institute-for-comparative-federalism/projects/research-suedtirol)" aims at studying and comparing how the Autonomous Provinces of Bolzano/Bozen (South Tyrol) and Trento, and the two [Austrian Länder Vorarlberg and *Tyrol*](https://www.eurac.edu/en/blogs/eureka/discovering-subnational-paths-to-climate-change-integration-an-austrian-way) are tackling the struggle against climate change. In fact, [subnational governments](https://www.eurac.edu/en/blogs/eureka/the-fight-against-climate-change-a-matter-for-subnational-governments) play an important role in the integration of climate change policies at the local and provincial level. This project is particularly well times since the recent Glasgow Climate Pact has recalled nations and governments about the urgency of addressing climate change and related negative impacts.
