WINLOOP

WINLOOP - Development of technologies, digitization, and business models for closing the window life cycle

WINLOOP develops a highly circular window system through an integrated design process based on the principles of adaptability, disassembly, and reuse. The project adopts a methodological approach based on experimental evidence that combines product portfolio analysis, disassembly tests, material characterization, and the definition of circularity metrics, used to identify the main technical and construction barriers of conventional windows. The technical solutions developed during the design phase are verified through full-scale prototyping and operational testing at Eurac's Circular Lab, monitoring intervention times, the quantity and quality of recovered materials, and their suitability for reuse or remanufacturing. At the same time, WINLOOP is developing a Digital Product Passport, in line with European regulatory guidelines, integrating identification labels, data structure, and exchange protocols to ensure traceability, document management, and end-of-life process support. Finally, a circular business model based on regenerative supply chains, advanced maintenance services, and market introduction strategies is defined and validated through simulations, interviews, and checks with supply chain stakeholders. WINLOOP represents an advanced application case of circular transition in the window sector, with high potential for transferability to other building components.
