Energy retrofit of historic buildings

We create design solutions for the retrofitting of buildings, as well as historic town and village centers. Our approach is grounded in thermo-hygrometric assessments, laboratory testing, on-site monitoring, and dynamic simulations.

What we offer

Personalized scientific consulting: every historic building requires a tailor-made energy renovation plan that complies with conservation regulations and owner requirements.

  • Technical, energy and environmental analyses: thermo-hygrometric assessments, on-site monitoring and dynamic simulations (including summer scenarios) to identify retrofit solutions compatible with conservation.

  • Retrofit plans for historic buildings and town and village centers: support for public administrations in defining guidelines, urban planning tools and energy plans for areas and districts.

  • Coordination of integrated processes (IDP): involvement of clients, designers, suppliers and refurbishment experts to ensure consistent and shared retrofitting interventions.

  • Active and passive strategies: application of natural ventilation systems, efficient lighting and targeted use of renewable sources to improve environmental comfort.

  • Consultancy that combines scientific knowledge and heritage protection, providing operational tools to public and private entities for effective energy refurbishment that respects historical identity.

Who we work with

Municipalities, local and regional authorities, heritage protection bodies and owners of historic buildings who wish to reduce energy consumption without compromising architectural value. We also support architectural firms, designers and manufacturers who require scientific advice to develop  compatible conservation interventions and products.

What we offer

  • Development and testing of innovative solutions: consulting for manufacturers on the design of materials (insulation, plaster) and components (windows, doors and solar shutters) as well as  laboratory testing to verify their performance.

  • Advanced numerical simulations to evaluate the thermophysical performance of solutions, both at component and building level.

  • Accredited calculations of the thermal transmittance of windows, doors and solar shading (link to the detailed list of Accredia accredited tests).

  • Integrated analyses with experimental tests developed according to specific company requests in our dedicated laboratories.

Thanks to the combination of simulation, testing and multidisciplinary expertise, we offer companies a reliable tool to improve energy efficiency, reduce development costs and accelerate the certification of new products.

Who we work with

Manufacturers and suppliers of building materials, doors and windows, and solutions to prevent moisture damage who aim to develop high performance energy-efficient products and test their hygrothermal behaviour in accordance with international standards.
