My cookie preferencesThe Covid-19 pandemic put social cohesion to the test, including in South Tyrol. While the early stages of the crisis were marked by widespread solidarity and consensus, growing tensions and polarization emerged over time. These trends of social fragmentation affected both public engagement in societal and political affairs and private social relationships — within families, friendships, neighborhoods, workplaces, and community organizations. This study explores whether and how the pandemic has had a lasting impact on social cohesion in South Tyrol. Taking a distinctly social-scientific approach, it aims to capture the perspectives and attitudes of the South Tyrolean population. By reflecting on the past, the study seeks to inform the future—helping to bridge societal divides today while drawing lessons for future crises.
