## Was ist EUreka!?

**Ein Blog über verschiedene EU-bezogene Themen**
Die Wahlen zum Europäischen Parlament fanden im Mai 2019 statt. Für die Mehrheit der europäischen Bürger sind diese Wahlmomente jedoch sehr verwirrend und unklar. Dies gilt nicht nur für das praktische Funktionieren dieser Wahlen, sondern auch für die Auswirkungen des Wahlergebnisses auf unser tägliches Leben. In der Tat sind Europawahlen in einer Zeit großen Misstrauens gegenüber der repräsentativen Demokratie und eines allgegenwärtigen Antieuropäismus in Politik und Gesellschaft im Allgemeinen dem Risiko von Populismus und Desinteresse ausgesetzt.

Die niedrige Wahlbeteiligung bei den Europawahlen 2014 (42%) ist nur eines der Symptome der Krise, in der sich die Europäische Union damals befand und die immer noch mehr als aktuell ist. Die Europäische Union befindet sich in Schwierigkeiten. Jeder kennt Ausdrücke wie "Finanzkrise" oder "Brexit", aber weniger die wahre Bedeutung dieser Begriffe.

**Darum ist eine klare und umfassende Debatte über das, was derzeit in der EU geschieht, notwendig.**

Dieser Blog, der im April 2019 gestartet wurde, soll Licht auf einige der wichtigsten Themen für die Zukunft der Europäischen Union werfen - verstanden als Ganzes, aber auch als Summe von 28 (jetzt 27) verschiedenen Ländern, die zum Aufbau einer bewussten und informierten öffentlichen Meinung beitragen.
Angesichts des Mottos der EU "In Vielfalt geeint" und der Idee der EU als supranationales Gebilde, das aus verschiedenen Kulturen, Traditionen und Sprachen besteht, versucht EUreka! Geschichten und interdisziplinäre Aspekte herauszuarbeiten, die sonst in der allgemeinen Diskussion über die Europäische Union und Europa im Allgemeinen vernachlässigt werden.
